Earlier this month, I decided to head up to the St. Elmo ghost town (I guess you can call it that even though people live there) after shooting sunrise down in the valley. It was a beautiful day when I started the 16 mile journey up the mountain. I drove into the clouds as I gained altitude. The temperature dropped and a mixture of rain, sleet, and snow steadily began to fall. I guess the conditions were not what I had in mind before I started out! Luckily, the skies began to clear as I reached town and I found the buildings along the main street dampened with the newly fallen moisture which added texture and seemed to make the structures look even more aged.

I found it interesting that I used my 17mm tilt-shift lens to keep the building from looking like it was leaning. The tough thing was that I don’t know if any wall of this building was actually straight or level! You will also notice a ground squirrel on the steps leading up to the front door. He seemed content to sit and watch me the entire time I was shooting. At least he wasn’t climbing up my pant leg like they have done to me before…
