I hiked up the North Fork of the Virgin River in Zion National Park three times during my recent fall trip to southwest Utah. The colors were at their peak in the Narrows and there was so much to shoot. The first two days were with my friend and fellow photographer Luke Tingley. Luke is the same age as my son and about a foot taller than I am. When I go out shooting with him, I know I am going to get a workout! The first day we hiked up past Orderville Canyon and I went about as far as where this shot was taken. Luke carried on full steam until he reached the falls at the end of the canyon. I will save that for another day!
At the northern end of the canyon, the river spreads out and reaches from one wall to the other. Trees are fewer and far between. It is a great place to focus on the main qualities of this image, the flowing water, the towering rock walls, and the light dancing around each corner.
