Cape Reinga Lighthouse sits on the northernmost point of the North Island of New Zealand. Nat Coalson and I spent a month in New Zealand exploring the photographic opportunities of both the north and south islands. Cape Reinga is quite a ways away from most anything. We had planned on parking our campervan at a holiday park close by, but a) it was probably the scariest place we had been to, and b) it wasn’t as close as it looked on a map! We ended up parking at a campsite down the hill from the lighthouse. The clouds were slowly moving in as we shot sunset. Soon after the rain started and it seemed to rain for most of the night. Sunrise was going to be iffy, but fortunately the clouds moved out to sea as the sun came up. Looking back at my images, I picked this one for the drama the stormy skies adds to the scene.
