If it weren’t for the fact that I geocode all of my images as soon as I get them downloaded, I don’t think I would be able to pinpoint exactly where all my images from this fall were taken. My good friend and fellow photographer Rod Hanna must have showed me every one of his favorite shooting locations. We revisited many of them to catch the view in different light or different stages of fall color. Occasionally he would take a different route to the same location just to see how things were looking.
That was the case on the last morning I was there. We headed out early for a sunrise shoot at an awesome location on the way to Crosho Lake (pictures to come soon…). It was my third time there over the past week. On the way back to Steamboat Springs, he decided to take a different way over to the little town of Oak Creek. The road followed Oak Creek with steep rolling hills covered with aspens and underbrush along the sides. The colors were amazing with splashes of gold, red, and green everywhere. I would have asked Rod to stop, but we had to get back to take a friend to the airport. Later that morning, I made the detour back to this road on my way back home. Needless to say I didn’t get home as early as expected. I spent over an hour shooting shots like this detail of an aspen grove in just a mile along this road!

Thanks Patricia. There is never a dull day around here in fall!
