I left southwest Utah a little over a week ago when the skies began to clear and the autumn colors began to fade. I took the south route back to Colorado and came up through Durango as the weekend winter storm was beginning to clear. The farther north that I traveled up the Million Dollar Highway the more snow that had fallen and there were still flurries in the air as the daylight began to fade. I came over Molas Pass south of Silverton and had to stop as this scene played out to the east. The clouds were lifting just enough to let the last light of day filter through to the peaks of the Grenadier Mountains beyond Molas lake. I turned around and tried to find a place to park, but as I started to pull off the road, it was evident that I stood a good chance of getting stuck in over a foot of fresh snow. I took a chance and left my Jeep parked in the road and ran down to grab a few shots. Fortunately, there was barely anybody out in the winter conditions!
