We have been getting a lot of much needed snow here in my valley since I returned home from my recent trip down south. In fact it started snowing in the middle of the night and hasn’t stopped yet this morning. That’s fine, we need as much as we can get. If my memory and my addition are correct we have probably gotten about thirty inches in the last three weeks (and that is at 8,700 feet – just imagine how much the mountains are getting!). It has been nice to look out and see the mountains surrounding me covered with snow, knowing that it will provide much needed moisture to the area.

It is often challenging to get some nice images of the mountains covered in fresh snow since the norm here is that as soon as it clears up the winds come ravaging over the mountain range to the west. The winds strip the trees of their gorgeous blanket of snow and fill the air with blowing snow. Yesterday morning the sun was out but the wind was blowing the snow so much you would swear that you were in the middle of a storm. That was not so a couple of weeks ago. The skies began to clear the morning after a snowstorm and it was still as could be. The trees drooped from the weight of several inches of snow. The mountains were completely covered with fresh snow. What a beautiful sight indeed. This panoramic image of the 14,196 foot high Mt. Princeton was actually taken while standing inside my patio door!
