I made a couple of stops while travelling up the east coast of Florida on this last trip. I had done some research ahead of time and found a couple of locations that have rocky areas on the beaches. The first stop was at Coral Cove State Park outside of Jupiter. I checked out the park the afternoon before and got some ideas of which groups of rocks I might want to use for some sunrise compositions the next morning. It was a full moon that evening, but it looked like any chance of shooting that evening were going to be hindered by the showers that were moving in.
I got to the beach in the morning and was a little surprised. I hadn’t paid any attention to when the tides were in. Top that off with a full moon and you have some pretty crazy seas. It was still a couple of hours before high tide, but yet the waves were crashing in and coming all the way up the beach. I got my gear ready and proceeded to look like the shorebirds that you see running away from the waves. It was tough to really pick out a composition, so I just chose a rock and used it to anchor my shot whenever I had a chance to get down there. The clouds were pretty heavy on the horizon, but they did give way a bit and I was able to come away with a couple of keepers. I can’t say so much for my hiking shoes. Who would be stupid enough to wear those to the beach anyway?
