It was a pleasant morning when I hiked into Yakso Falls in the Umpqua National Forest outside of Glide, Oregon. The skies were overcast but there was no need for an umbrella for a change. The trail gently wound through a forest filled with pines, maples, and wild rhododendrons that were just beginning to bloom. The easy hike was a nice change from the rather rigorous hikes from previous days. After about three quarters of a mile the trail descended into a quiet and secluded hollow where the Little River fans out over a rocky ledge and drops about forty feet over Yakso Falls. The water delicately sprays over rock outcroppings as it tumbles down into the calm pool below making for a beautiful sight. The Chinook name Yakso which means “hair” is very fitting as to the look of the water. The compositions were limited in the small amount of space, but it was a delight shooting in such a serene setting.
