The road to Hemlock Falls and Yakso Falls winds along beside the Little River outside of Glide, Oregon for 26 miles before reaching the trailheads at the Lake-in-the-Woods campground. What starts out as a nice paved road turns into one used mainly for logging trucks. I hadn’t planned on it taking quite so long to get there, but the closer we got to our destination the slower I had to go due to the rain-soaked muddy road. It was a relief to finally find the campground. We were fortunate to have overcast skies as late as it was and the conditions for both falls were perfect.

Hemlock Falls can be found at the end of a short, but somewhat steep hike of about half a mile. Hemlock Creek appears to almost come out of nowhere at first glance until you notice how it twists around before dropping over the falls. The gorge is lined with fallen trees that have gathered moss over the years making it a challenge to frame up a composition. At least the water at the base was rather shallow and I was able to wade around freely to come up with something that I found pleasing.
