The weather couldn’t have cooperated more with our shooting plans than on this day in Glacier National Park. My good friend and fellow photographer Luke Tingley and I awoke to the sound of a gentle rain as our alarms went off to get up for sunrise. We got ready and headed out anyway only to sit in the car until we were confident the sun wasn’t going to break through the clouds hanging low over Saint Mary Lake. The forecast was for this weather to hang around for most of the day, so we both agreed it would be a great day to scope out some of the many waterfalls in the park.
Not far down the road from the Wild Goose Island Overlook was the trailhead to Baring Falls. The steady rain continued as we headed down the trail in the dim early morning light. It wasn’t long before we heard the sounds of rushing water and came upon the falls. They were especially beautiful with the whole scene drenched from the rain. Many of the red rocks which are so predominate in the park glimmered in the gentle flow of Baring Creek. There wasn’t a whisper of a breeze and the woods were filled with silence. I could have spent an hour just sitting and absorbing the tranquility of the surroundings, but both Luke and I knew there was plenty more exploring to do and we headed out as soon as we each got our shots.
